Českomoravská highland stretches in south-east Bohemia and in south-east Moravia and its area is 11742 km2. There are seven parts: Křemešnická highland, Javořická highland, Křižanovská highland, Hornosvratecká highland, Hornosázavské hills, Železné Mountains and Jevišovské hills. Vysočina – a region between Bohemia and Moravia with the main town Jihlava; there are Havlíčkův Brod, Jihlava, Pelhřimov, Třebíč and Žďár nad Sázavou. The area of Vysočina includes Železné Mountains, then Žďárské hills and Jihlavské hills with the highest mountain Javořice (837m above sea level). Character of the area is typical for higher altitude; we can find here many protected and natural interesting places. One of the most impressive places is protected landscape Žďárské hills where river Chrudimka starts and we can follow here a very interesting educational path through the region of Chrudimka. CHKO (Protected landscape) Železné Mountains offer romantic visit in a valley of river Doubrava or visit ruins of castle Lichnice. Walks along other rivers are also interesting – Sázava, Želivka and Jihlava. There are also interesting and important towns – Havlíčkův Brod, Jihlava, Humpolec, Pelhřimov, Telč, Třebíč, Žďár nad Sázavou, Velké meziříčí and Nové Město na Moravě. The most important sights in the Czech Republic are also UNESCO heritage – Telč – historic city centre, Žďár nad Sázavou – church of St. John Nepomuck in Zelená Hora and Třebíč – basilica of St. Prokop, Jewish neighbourhood and Jewish cemetery. Also museum in Pelhřimov is very interesting – Czech and world record-breakings.

Holiday in Vysočina, it means beautiful landscape, good-quality accommodation and friendly people. It is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. There is a great system of marked paths and cycle paths; there are also several dozens of kilometres of horse-riding paths. This region is also suitable for cross-country skiing in winter. The most popular centre for cross-country skiing is around Nové Město na Moravě, where biathlon races take place.
