Šumava is one of the most significant and most visited tourist destinations with an extraordinary variety of services, which are suitable for discriminating clients. There are tourist buses and ski-buses, you can take part in observing wild animals or you can explore the wildlife with a guide. The system of marked paths and cycle paths still has been in progress, the number of info panels, resting places and lookouts is increasing. Šumava has become a mecca of fans of cross-country skiing and cyclists, yet in-line skating is also popular as well as classical skating, yachting and hiking. Šumava, with the rivers Vydra, Otava and Vltava, is attractive for boating. Šumava is a great place for disabled people, tourists – beginners and families with small children and strollers. Most of the roads are suitable for wheelchairs and other roads are being developed, including disabled facilities.

Šumava National Park and Protected Landscape is in the region of Český Krumlov, Prachatice and Klatovy. The area of the Protected Landscape is 945 km2 and the area of NP is 685 km2. The territory of the NP stretches out from Železnorudská basin towards west, it includes the territory of Šumava plains around Kvilda and its borders follow the river Teplá Vltava to Lipno. It also includes Trojmezenská highlands and Plechého massif (highest point 1378 m above sea level). The Protected Landscape is situated around the NP where there is the area of Lipno and the area among Volary, Vimperk and Kašperské mountains in the east; in the west there is the area from Železná Ruda to Nýrsko. In the central part of Šumava, there is snow up to 140 days in a year.

The area of Bohemian Forest is 789 km2, with the height of 628 m above sea level in the west and south-west part of Bohemia on the border with Germany. The highest peak is Čerchov (1042 m above sea level), other important peaks are Skalka (1005 m above sea level) and Přimda (848 m above sea level). In winter this area is perfect for cross-country skiing. Starting points for this activity are Tachov, Rozvadov, Přimda, Pověžovice and Klenčí pod Čerchovem. Original beech woods, moors with pine trees, florid meadows and pastures have remained preserved. Šumava is home for European otters, Black grouse and Eurasian lynx. There is a wide variety of accommodation in Šumava – hotels, cabins, cottages, guest houses, and camps – all of high quality. You will find restaurants, accommodation, various rental shops everywhere.

You should also visit: Klatovy – catacombs of Jesuit monastery with mummies, Baroque pharmacy, Black Tower; Český Krumlov – castle, Latrán, museums, church of St. Vitus; Nýrsko – top of the mountain Ostrý – nicknamed “Breasts of God's mother”, waterfall Bílá strž, mountain pass Prenet, resorts Hojsova, Stráž and Brčálník; Železná Ruda – Černé a Čertovo jezero (Black and Devil's lake),  Velký Javor and Špičák, lookout tower in Poledník, lake Laka; Modrava – valley of Vydra, vanished settlement Břeník, Vchynickotetovský shipping channel, Tríjezerní moor; Kvilda – Vltava spring, Bučina, cross-country skiing trails at Kvilda and Horská Kvilda, Chalupská and Jezerní moor with short educational trails; Sušice – historical centre, cottage with a lookout tower of Svatobora, lookout tower, castle and open-air folk museum in Velhartice; Kašperské mountains – historical centre, castle, valley of the river Losenice, Amála's valleay; Stachy – lookout tower in Javorník, Churáňov, fire-fighting museum; Vimperk – castle, Boubín, castle Kunžvart, Mařský top; Prachatice – Písecká gate, square, lookout tower in Libín, castle Hus; Volary – Boubínský forest, village conservation area Dobrá, Vltavký luh; Nová Pec – Plešné lake, Plechý, rocky town in Perník, Tristoličník; Horní Planá  - Stifter's museum, Muckov limestone quarries; Frymburk – church in the square, castle Vítek's stone, devil's wall, monastery Vyšší Brod
