Podyjí, paradise for cyclists, wine lovers and history lovers, is situated at the border with Austria. Sunny and fertile lowlands, orchards and famous vineyards stretch in picturesque hilly area with deep valleys of several rivers. The most famous river is Dyje, which is guarded by several grandiose castles and romantic chateaus. There is the smallest national park of the Czech Republic – Podyjí with rocky slopes covered by forests, moors and great system of marked paths and cycle paths. The centre is a historical town Znojmo, which is the second biggest town in south Moravian region and it is the centre of vineyards. There is a castle over the river Dyje and you can visit the underground which is fairy tale-like, maybe horror-like. The area around Vranovská dam is here for swimming and having a rest. There are romantic castles, chateaus and preserved ruins in this beautiful landscape. You can visit wine cellars or Znojemské vinobraní (vintage), which is held every year. Many guest houses, wine cellars, hotels and apartments offer their accommodation not only for wine lovers. You can also enjoy bathing and swimming in many other surrounding dams.
